This two cell, plug flow digester system processes manure from 3000 Jersey cows. Northern Plains Dairy currently uses digester biogas to fuel naturally aspirated Caterpillar 3406 engine-generators with an output of 260kW and full heat recovery. With a bolt-on turbo upgrade, the system will be capable of a 320kW output.

Digested solids are separated and stored in a compost facility for future use. Solids are used for bedding and may also be sold for increased revenue.
